STEM-ME WORKSHEETS

We used the STEM-ME framework to develop a guiding worksheet to help teams leverage an inventory tool and a visual mapping tool to map and better understand their mentoring ecosystems.  Below we provide a general overview of the STEM-ME framework, tips for team construction, and STEM-ME mapping and peer observation worksheets.

UNDERSTANDING THE FRAMEWORK

STEM Mentoring Ecosystems (STEM-ME) is a framework that places individual mentoring program initiatives within a broader multi-level context in order to facilitate the building of synergies and reduce silos within the institutional environment.

CONSTRUCTING THE TEAM

Team Composition Instructions: You should generate a 3-5 person campus team. Ideally, each member can provide different insights into your STEM mentoring ecosystem. Not everyone providing input into the ecosystem must be a formal member of the team; this would make your team too large. Instead, the team members can work together to identify information from various campus stakeholders. Your team will be strengthened if your team members provide different vantage points in the ecosystem.

CONSIDER TEAM MEMBERS WHO...

Are located within different areas of the campus, including different reporting lines (e.g., academic affairs and student life)

Understand the need and/or nature of mentoring for different populations (e.g., undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty)

Work with different mentoring models or approaches, including initiatives that embed mentoring interactions but do not call themselves mentoring programs.
